If your device or a cable in the device is defective, it is possible that sparking will occur under some circumstances. In the case of 3-pole devices, the earth connection ensures that the current is safely led away and that there is no danger of an electric shock. The earth plug is leading, which means the plugs have been constructed so that the earth connection is made before the plug pins make a connection with the current source. In other words, protection has been provided before the electrical current can even flow.

In the case of cheaply made adapters, it is possible for sparking to occur on the inside of the product under some circumstances. For example, if the minimum distance between individual current-carrying components has not been observed, or if these have not been adequately fixed. This sparking leads voltage fluctuations or voltage peaks, which can damage or even destroy the device. In extreme cases, this can also lead to fires.

The International Electrotechnical Commission is one of the three sister organisations (in addition to the ISO and ITU) which develop the international electrotechnical standards for the whole world. It was founded in 1906, and has headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Further offices are located in Singapore, Brazil, USA and Australia. In addition to this, there are 81 member countries and 82 connected states throughout the world.

The IEC is of global importance thanks to the close cooperation between the three organisations. Customers can therefore be secure in the knowledge that electric and electronic products which have an IEC-conform certificate fulfil all the relevant international standards, and also fulfil the highest expectations with regard to functionality, safety, energy efficiency and environmental friendliness.

The travel adapters are made for temporary use only. Within a period of six hours, it shall only be used at maximum power for one hour.
