The International Electrotechnical Commission is one of the three sister organisations (in addition to the ISO and ITU) which develop the international electrotechnical standards for the whole world. It was founded in 1906, and the headquarters is in Geneva (Switzerland). Further offices are located in Singapore, Brazil, USA and Australia. In addition to this, there are 81 member countries and 82 connected states throughout the world.

The IEC is of global importance thanks to the close cooperation between the three organisations. Customers can therefore be secure in the knowledge that electric and electronic products which have an IEC-conform certificate fulfil all the relevant international standards, and also fulfil the highest expectations with regard to functionality, safety, energy efficiency and environmental friendliness.
